HEPATICA
Hepaticas are hot, as they deserve to be. Hepatica has become one of our favorite groups of plants for early spring bloom. They are easy to grow in gritty or humusy well-drained soil in light shade. They will grow in acidic or slightly alkaline soil. The Japanese have selected and grown their native hepaticas for centuries, and we are happy to be able to offer some examples. We are sticking with the "old" botanical names for the Asian hepaticas. The idea of using Hepatica nobilis as the name for most of the Asian species is silly, especially when you consider that the Asian species closest to nobilis, H.henryi, is still maintained as a separate species.@
