WOODLAND PERENNIALS

Polygonatum cryptanthum Zones 4-9 #053-001
One of the most interesting Japanese Solomon's seals. Grows to about a foot tall with arching stems. The species' name means "hidden flowers", referring to the pair of green bracts that accompanies each pair of green-tinted white flowers.
Polygonatum falcatum Zones 4-9 #053-002
One of several Japanese Solomon's seal species; this one 2 to 3 feet tall with narrow leaflets and typical creamy bell-shaped flowers. Seldom seen in the U.S. Easy.
Polygonatum falcatum, silver-striped selection Zones 4-9 #053-003
Exciting new variant of the above with leaves decorated with silver stripes.
Polygonatum humile variegatum (yellow-striped) Zones 4-9 #053-010
A dwarf Japanese Solomon's seal with upright stems about 6 inches tall and oval leaves. The green leaves are striped with yellow variegation. New and rare.
Polygonatum inflatum Zones 4-9 #053-026
Rare species from Northeast Asia. Stems are up to 2' tall with a few leaves. The flowers are dangling cream bells with green tips, enclosed by 2 spreading puffy green bracts..
Polygonatum macranthum Zones 4-9 #053-046
Very rare species native in north Japan. This is one of the tallest species and good for garden plant. Limited number available.
Polygonatum maximowiczii Zones 4-9 #053-027
Large form of Polygonatum odoratum, native in Hokkaido. Limited number available for fall 2007.
Polygonatum odoratum 'Byakko' Zones 4-9 #053-015
This variegated form has a leaf that is half green and half white. The tip of the leaf is green, and part adjoining the stem white. The color is best in light shade with some morning sun and is better on larger plants. The name means "white tiger". This plant was once fairly common in Japan; I remember seeing fields of it in Ikeda grown for the cut flower trade. It nearly disappeared from cultivation and now is making a slow, pricey comeback. Limited supply.
