One of the most interesting Japanese Solomon's seals. Grows to about a foot tall with arching stems. The species' name means "hidden flowers", referring to the pair of green bracts that accompanies each pair of green-tinted white flowers.

Polygonatum odoratum 'Byakko' Zones 4-9 #053-015
This variegated form has a leaf that is half green and half white. The tip of the leaf is green, and part adjoining the stem white. The color is best in light shade with some morning sun and is better on larger plants. The name means "white tiger". This plant was once fairly common in Japan; I remember seeing fields of it in Ikeda grown for the cut flower trade. It nearly disappeared from cultivation and now is making a slow, pricey comeback. Limited supply.
